How many needles do you use?
The number of needles depends on the concerns of the patient, the general health of the patient and discretion of the doctor. Treatments will always include a mix of body, facial points and ear points. This is because to effectively treat the skin of the face, we need to treat the root of the issue by harmonizing the health of the whole body.
What are your credentials?
In addition to completing my masters and doctorate in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, I have taken and passed Mazin Al Khafaji’s TCM Herbal Dermatology Diploma Course. Additionally, I have completed Acuregen’s Cosmetic Acupuncture Core Protocols with Amanda Shayle, the founder of Thrive intradermal acupuncture needles. During my time living in Seoul, South Korea I became enamored with skin health and botanical skincare products and incorporate those tools in my facial rejuvenation acupuncture protocols.
Does it hurt?
You may feel a pinch as the needle is inserted but generally speaking, patients find that receiving acupuncture is a pleasant experience. Once the needle is inserted, you may feel a qi (pronounced like ‘chi’) sensation - a sensation of movement, warmth, cooling, gentle pulling or lifting either around the needle site or throughout the body. These sensations are common however it’s also possible you may feel nothing at all. The doctor will always work with you to ensure that your comfort is maintained throughout the treatment.
How long does it take to work?
A course of treatment for facial rejuvenation acupuncture is 10 treatments, ideally within a 5 week timeframe. More superficial concerns like puffiness and under eye circles may improve at the end of just one treatment and oftentimes people find that their eyes are shiny and brighter. Changes to sunspots and fine lines will start to be seen around treatment 6 with full results typically seen by treatment 10. Results and number of recommended treatments may vary depending on areas of concern, age and overall health.
